Hello, again. I thought I might give my version of "Ariel," since
Margaret so kindly suggested a box of heirloom apples as a Christmas
gift.
Since we are blessed with a pomegranate tree/bush, this is one of our
favorite holiday treats.
Take the seeds from a couple of good-sized pomegranates and place them
in a mixing bowl.
Put into the bowl a handfull each of sliced almonds, dates, raisins and
apples.
In a blender, put papaya chunks from one smallish fruit (as opposed to
the 10# Mexican papayas one often sees in markets) and the juice of 1-2
oranges, depending on their size (you don't want it too soupy).
Dress the pomegranate, nut, raisin, date and apple mixture with the
orange/papaya mixture and serve. The crunchiness of the pomegranate and
almonds contrasts beautifully with the softness of the dates and
raisins, with the apple chunks adding texture.
Serve as a dessert at Thanksgiving or Christmas...or anytime you can get
fresh pomegranates:)
Enjoy!
Ron
