Carolyn, heeheehee, no, we did not use a stick for devining...
We chose the rear corner of the property and I guess we were
pounding in some sort of special tools, can't quite recall.
When we were ready to give up, a pal of ours also with a
bent for do-it-yourself projects, came over and kept on
pounding. Sorry to say, we got nowhere.

We really should have put 2 & 2 together, though. Half a
block away is reportedly the highest plot of land in our
village . . . We think of ourselves as being at sea level, for
we are only 4 miles from the Atlantic Ocean -- but somehow,
the road from here to there must elevate a wee bit.

The other fact that I know about this area is that all along
the shore line there is a solid ridge of underground rock --
any house built within the first 3 miles inland does not have
a basement, because of this. We have a basement. Just at
what level the water sits under us, is anybody's guess .....
