I can't believe that my 2-years-in-the-ground climbing yellow rose is covered with buds! I left the vine tied to my banister and column at the back door, no protection from the winter cold, and while we did not have any snow all winter (usually about 6 storms, heavy deposit), nevertheless the weather did dip at least below freezing. The roses in the raised bed never lost their leaves until April 1st -- I have never seen my roses stay green all winter before! (zone 6) They are going gangbusters right now, with the nights hovering around 34*. Must be the stretched daylight .... George, one of the things I remember about Bermuda 45 years ago was that one side of the island had brown soil, and the other side had red soil. Stuff grew no matter which way.
