Hello, Penny, An early Happy Mothers' Day to you:) I think a lot of the fruit that is sold commercially, these days, is bred for shipping and storage, and not for taste. The article on peaches and nectarines in the Fruit Gardener's current issue focuses on that and tells those of us who live in CA where to obtain heirloom varieties and formerly widely enjoyed commercial varieties. We were pleased to see that Panamint made the cut of outstanding varieties of nectarines suitable for California:) They are the best tasting nectarines, by far, that we have ever eaten...and to have some of them canned is a bonus!
