As I understand it, pomegranates are native to South Central Asia, so
Afghanistan would be perfectly suited to them.

The varieties grown there and in India tend to be a bit more on the tart
side than the ones grown here.

One of my favorite uses is in a Turkish relish for kabobs with onion,
green pepper, Aleppo pepper and pomegranate molasses. Sweet and spicy at
the same time. Got the recipe from Steve Raichlin's BBQ Bible.
