Miz Anne and I got out into the garden about 6:30 pm today and ended up with: a) 3-gallon bucket of crowder peas; b) about a quart of green beans (they're playing out in the heat); c) half-a-dozen pods of okra (just starting to produce); d) about a quart and a half of ripe figs (lots of green ones on the tree); e) about 10 lbs (estimated) of cukes; f) and a half dozen ripe tomatoes (real ones, not cherry toms); g) about a quart of mild jalapenos. We looked up and it was starting to get dark and it was nearly 7:30 by the time we finished picking. Hadn't been able to get in the garden for nearly two days due to heavy rains. We sat and watched TV and snapped beans and shelled crowders and then washed all the veggies up. The crowders are on the stove now simmering and will be frozen when about 3/4 done. The green beans were eaten for dinner along with the last of the grilled salmon from Saturday, made into salmon croquettes, and fresh corn on the cob from the garden. I am full of good food. Getting ready to shut this machine down for the night and go slice cukes into a lime bath to make them crisp and then tomorrow I will make them into hamburger dills for canning and eating later. Life is good. George, Miz Anne, and Sleepy Dawg
