No gardening here today, we got another 2 or 3 inches of rain last
night, up to almost 75 inches for the year and 21 of that fell in
October.

Went to the VA clinic today to see about my irritated throat. Rather
than undergo an upper GI examination I elected to take the cough syrup
with a little codeine and to gargle four times a day with 2 tspns salt,
1 tspn baking soda, stirred into 1 cup of warm water. My NP and the MD
both seem to think it's the intubation roughness aggravated by post
nasal drip from sinuses and that it even may be related to the facial
and neck nerves that were cut during the surgery that may be triggering
my cough reflex. Reckon we will see with time.

Stopped at Emery's Restaurant in Iowa, LA (pronounced I O WAY) and had
some fried shrimp. If any of you are ever running west on I10 between
Lafayette and Lake Charles, LA be sure to stop at Emery's for a meal.
Superb cooking and small town ambience. We're only in there every month
or two but they always remember us and where we like to sit. I don't
even own any of the business but wouldn't mind getting a bit of it.

Home to a very wet and muddy dog who, once more, had been chasing
squirrels around the back mudpatch where water is still standing from
last night. She got a bath yesterday because she slipped rounding a
corner while in hot pursuit and ended up rolling through the mud and
water. A pitiful sight if I ever saw one. I think I'll round her up and
go take a nap.

Life is good.
