George, during WW 2, we lived for a year at Ft.Leonard Wood, Mo., with a farm couple and their two very young sons. Every night of the year they had the same supper: corn bread, a bowl of fresh milk, and a whole raw onion. Even the toddler walked around chewing on the whole raw onion .... The wife sometimes rebelled, for she craved some variety in their diet, but the husband was adament. Seemed strange to me at the time, but obviously, you also had that combination. I draw a blank on where I had my dinners -- never cooked in their G.I.rental kitchen; never drove off the Post; never saw a restaurant within miles of there. Hmmnn... I'll have to ask Jimmie.
