Sorry that's happened, Rosemary. DH is not insulin dependent either, and 
he's doing a great job just with diet alone. He doesn't get the recommended 
exercise. He claims he works too much at home to have time, but that's not 
true, to put it nicely.  He's allowed 60  grams, I guess, of carbs per meal 
(he said 15 grams is counted as one carb, and he's allowed 4 per meal).

I think the info is on the package.  There is a faux brown sugar available 
too, Rosemary.

We're interested in your cake recipe.  It's melauter@earthlink.net.  I'm 
glad you're having such a positive experience with your guard dog, 
Rosemary.  I don't think abused dogs ever forget their abuse.  Our beloved 
dog apparently was in a household of quarrels, at least.  If I begin 
cursing, he tucks his tail and leaves the room.  If an intruder rings the 
doorbell and wears a UPS or mailman's uniform, I'll be well-guarded.  If 
not, it's questionable.  His worst habit is attacking animals (and some
