Dear List,

Thank you all so much for your answers to my question about my night
blooming cereus. I had no idea that there were many kinds! My plant is a
pass-along from a friend, which she potted for me in a six inch pot, about 2
yrs ago. It has 3-4 long horizontal branches which bear the leaves, and
there are now these 3 tall vertical spikes. The horizontal branches are
about 3 ft. long at this point. The leaves are leathery and quite
cactus-looking, to me. The pictures of the epiphyllium that were in the
link were showed such large gorgeous flowers.... it made me reaffirm my
desire to continue keeping this ugly awkward looking plant alive -- at least
til I get my first flowers. I will keep a good lookout for bulges on the
leaves and ignore the vertical spikes, now that I know that they are not
going to bear the flowers. Thank you all again!

  Carolyn
