When I stepped out this morning to get the paper, the fragrance of citrus in blossom was everywhere. What an intoxicating scent!

The first roses are blooming, and our carpet roses are sending up strong new shoots.

We picked our first artichoke and we will enjoy that with dinnerr tonight.

The wisteria, which looked like barren twigs a week ago, has sprouted long panicles of flowers, ready to burst into bloom.

The geraniums are full of blossoms, and the macadamia is absolutely laden with blossoms on every branch.

The apricot has set fruit and the nectarine is starting to bloom.

And the tababuia, the pink trumpet flower tree which we planted in our parkway strip last April, is bursting into bloom here for the first time.

Today, we may hit 80, and then we will really see things take off...until the weekend, when we get another cold rainstorm from the north.

For those who say Southern California has no seasons, this refutes that contention very nicely. We may not have such a vast range of temperatures as much of the rest of the country, but we do, indeed, have seasons, and plants which respond more to the lengthening days than to temperature spikes (although we certainly do see reaction to warmth!)

Spring is lovely. I wish I could post some digital photos of our yard here.
