You must not have wasps around, Ron.  They usually spirit tiny worms off to 
provision their egg cells.  If there's just one or two on each plant, look 
closely to see if they have a horn.  Tomato hornworms chew away on 
tomatoes, peppers and eggplants.  Margaret L
