[tomato] Creating your own heirlooms?

Hi all,
I was just wondering how many of you have tried to cross pollinate different
species of tomatoes to create your own heirloom variety? What did you
cross? What were the results? What happened when you planted the seeds the
following year?
It's been a while since I've taken a biology class and I was just curious to
know what happens.
