Hi Mary Ann, There is LIMITED possibility of seed borne diseases but this was blown all out of proportion by Mr. Bromley. That's why I got into the discussion. Proper seed processing including fermentation will destroy practically all diseases that can be seed borne. The same fermentation is needed to make tomato seed in any way presentable. There have been many studies on this subject but I have seen none that are absolutely conclusive. Dr. Carolyn Male touches on the subject in her newly released book "My 100 Favorite Heirloom Tomato Varieties." It's good reading and the color photo quality is unusual at the price of $17.00.
