[tomato] Plants too close?

Hi Diane,

I don't think you have planted too closely and without looking at the
plants I wouls expect that your garden center is correct.  Bottom leaves
regularly die and are discarded.  Compare this with a tree.  You may see
shoots "suckers" emerging at tha base ot the dead leaves.  

If anything you may be over watering and over fertilizing.  Too much water
and Nitrogen will cause rampant foliage growth at the expense of fruit. 
Three weeks is certainly not an excessive time fruit to be present before
ripening.
