* Crossposted from: National Cooking Echo Well it's finally spring in the north! It was +10 today; the snow is melting and the ice roads were closed to traffic as there was too much slush on top. [The ice is still up to nine feet thick on the rivers and lakes.] The streets are full of puddles with small boys jumping in them and girl watching season can begin as the fair ones doff their parkas. With no ice bridge where the highway crosses the Mackenzie river and no ferry service expected for a month, we are out of touch with Edmonton except by air. The price of fresh milk and produce will skyrocket and the availability will decrease. I'm ready: my fridge has 3 heads of lettuce in it and my freezer is loaded with other veggies. My pantry has both powdered and canned milk in it for when my last 4 litres of fresh run out. With temps over 10 C [50 F] I found myself in a short sleeve shirt on the deck firing up the grill. The first "bbq" of the season was chicken legs and thighs basted with a mango chutney/apricot jam/lemon juice glaze. They were great! Cheers, YK Jim ... I get mail; therefore I am. - Dilbert
