As you can see from the list, there is some difference of opinion on when to pick them. I picked the first two today. The sheath felt full and the tip was starting to open, so I picked them. Two, of course, is not enough, but I'm very encouraged by the quantity of fruit already on the plant. The reason for growing my own tomatilloes is the unpredictable quantities, availability and *quality* in San Diego county grocery stores. When you can find enough of them here, they frequently are not worth husking. I've been using Herdez' canned tomatillo sauce for awhile, but it has a lot of other ingredients that I would rather control myself. Chuck Berridge San Marcos, CA
