I have not seen much of a connection between a lack of water and whitefly.
I grow mine in a mix of hydroponic and soil based culture and have been
pretty slack with watering in the soil based plants at times in the past.  I
haven't noticed much diffence in the level of infestation of whitefly
between the two.
