Thanks Brent for your feedback and corrections Baiely (Hortus third) says Sweet Bays can grow to 40' but apparently there are two varieties both called Sweet Bay just to add to the confusion. Grieve and others I have read say the Californian Bay is poisionous???!!! Probably (?)in the same way gum trees are with high cineol content. You would have to eat an awful lot of them or use an essntial oil to get into trouble with it. Michael Bailes, The Fragrant Garden, Portsmouth Road, Erina. N.S.W. 2250 Australia.
