Sounds like this plant got some combination of more/better water/light/fertilizer/warmth than it is normally used to, which caused it to grow more rapidly and lushly, and those better conditions allowed it to make larger leaves, too. Chiles like most plants usually make larger lusher leaves when conditions are better, smaller and tougher leaves when conditions are harsher. --- Brent
