I'm kind of known as a mad "organic" gardener around here and I try to limit using any pesticides but sometimes if you are making a living from growing plants and the pesky aphid population is sucking the life out of your seedlings it nice to know there is something you can put on your plants that isn't going to harm you. I do add to the Garlic spray slightly to make it more effective. I steep my crushed garlic in Paraffin oil and then dilute 10-20 to 1 with water that has a little soft soap dissolved in it. It helps it stick to the plants. The soft soaps here in Oz are called "Sunlight or Velvet" soap" or "Lux Flakes" is another one. Sort of old fashioned soaps. ----- Original Message ----- From: Larry Dinkoff <Larry.Dinkoff@verizon.net> To: Chile Heads Mail List <Chile-Heads@globalgarden.com> Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2003 12:53 AM Subject: [CH] Re: Garlic cures aphids in two days > It was mentioned that the garlic cure not only takes care of the aphids, > but also kills beneficial insects such as ladybugs. > > Considering the fact that an average ladybug can eat 5,000 aphids in its > lifetime, why would you want to kill the ladybugs? > > I release ladybugs into my garden every year, and I never have a problem > with aphids, or several other nasty beasties either. > > Just my opinion > > > Larry Dinkoff > > > >
