If the plants experienced *any* root loss, it is imperative to prune back. If 20% of the roots were lost, prune back 20%; if 30%, 30%; etc. The smaller root system simply can't support all of those stems and leaves. Now, if the plants were always in pots (i.e., there would be no root loss), I'd have to eat my words. From re-reading the orig. note, I guess that part is unclear. R.
