Peeking in the husks to see the maturity of the corn is a good idea.  I
usually only check one ear over and over.  If you wait until it "feels"
mature, it's probably overly mature.  I usually grow corn with tight husks,
so don't have earworm problems.  Even loosening the husks doesn't seem to
admit earworms.  But earwigs are in there, tight husks or not.  Margaret
