Terry, we're in zone 6 and those of our neighbors who chose to
put in zoysia have always regretted it. Their lawns look like naked
hay fields for all the cold weather. It's kind of like a burned out
yard! In zone 4, it would stretch the bad season by perhaps two
months.....
Perhaps there are ground covers or ivy which would be hardy,
and at least would look green.
