>According to "The Gardener's Iris Book", published by the Taunton Press in >1998, by William Shear ...<snip> Thank-you, Martha, for setting this straight. The book is wonderful and I should have been quicker to look it up than to just say what we do! My apologies to Pauline and Gary if I was misleading, in any way, about cutting them back. Sorry. We do cut ours back after the leaves have yellowed but then our local climate may be a factor. Our bearded iris never fail to be huge (about 4' tall) and with emormous spring blooms. Just wish we knew a good way to keep the weeds at bay! Linda in NW Ohio near Toledo/Lake Erie, USDA Zone 5 llbs@mail.glasscity.net
