Wow what a day. Once I got off of the computer this morning I went back =
out into the garden and got lots done. First I planted a number of pots =
for the backyard. One has purple & white striped Angolinia with million =
bells in pink below. Another only has the Angolenia and a couple of =
dusty miller. As an experiment I put a pale pink calla lily, two red =
impatiens and three white begonia into pots together. I packed a lot of =
that water retaining crystals around the calla as they need to be wetter =
than the other two. So far they look great at the posts of the back =
porch. =20
We got 15 more bags of red wood chip mulch this afternoon and have =
spread most of that around some of the newer beds. I think we will need =
15 more bags to get the rest of the job done. My Daylilies and the =
roses now have mulch for the first time too. =20
Course, first I put down the new soaker hose that was purchased for the =
rose bed. To get water to the soaker hose I had to dig up some old =
piping that had been damaged when our cable (TV & Computer) was replaced =
last summer. It was easy to pull the rest up from just below the grass. =
That piping was spliced together to be long enough to reach to the =
water spigot from the rose bed. Part of the splicing job is an old hose =
that had frozen this winter and had cracked in a few places. I cut out =
the largest part of the good hose to run to the buried piping, then used =
the some more to put between a pair of sprinkler heads that have an in =
and out for attaching them in a line. These will stay above ground so =
that I can move them around the grass. =20
Now all my flower beds have permanent sprinklers and timers. You should =
see, the spigot it looks like it is growing roots. After the back flow =
preventer there is a timer and 4 different Y attachments going to all =
the hoses. Then I added drippers from the piping to all the pots that =
are in the sun. Lets hope I put the right drippers on. The pkgs got =
dumped out and mixed up. One type allows 1/2 gallon per hour, the other =
lets out 2 gallons per hour. If the plants start floating out of the =
pots I will know. Even the Kumquat got it's own dripper. =20
My tomatoes got into the ground too. They had been in pots and are now =
out in the area where we took out the scrub palm this winter. I also =
made a big mound about 3 ft across. On one side I put in watermelon and =
the other got zuchinni. The mound was made with the left over potting =
soil, a little composted cow manure and the sand that is my yard. It =
all got watered well with the new sprinklers. I am so excited!
Anne in FL who got sunburned today, cause I forgot the sunscreen. =20
