Our pair of mourning doves returned a couple of weeks ago, to spend time together at the bird bath, off to the apple tree, thence to the electric wires. I don't know where they nest. Then I saw a feathered carcass in the street. Apparently a car had hit a bird, and I wasn't sure what kind of bird until I saw one mourning dove spending a lot of time at the bird bath alone, then flying into the apple tree and sitting still for long periods of time. I thought she or he would spend the summer alone since pairing should be completed by now. Last evening, there were two mourning doves at the birdbath! I was delighted, even though I think they're of the same gender. Oh, well. At least they have each other. Margaret L
