I hope all had a wonderful holiday!

We had a very rainy May and beginning of June, since than no rain. =
Instead we have had temperatures in the 90s with heat indices in the =
100+s. Last night had loads of lightening and thunder, but not one drop =
of rain. I'm in a farming community and no one remembers having this =
much heat so early in the summer. The corn and soybean fields have all =
stopped growing.

I planted over a 100 perennials in May and June, with all the rain I =
lost quite a few to root rot. Than the hot, dry weather started. So I =
had been watering the new plants until the water restrictions started. I =
think this was a bad year to start all the perennials, I know they are =
hardy little buggers, but I'm just praying they can handle all this =
stress.

I had roses ordered for a May delivery. Only three arrived in May the =
rest got here the last week of June. Per J&Ps instructions, I am =
keeping them in the basement, misting once a week.=20

I purchased the Fiskars soaker hoses and connectors from WalMart and am =
hoping I'll be able to install them soon. I am waiting on a bulk mulch =
delivery (can't wait until my compost pile starts producing!) so I can =
put the feeder hoses down and cover them.

Penny, how long did your soaker hoses last?? I am hoping these will last =
several years before having to replace them

The heat supposedly has broken for awhile, but no rain forecast til =
Monday! I am going to start planting the roses, I just hope they are =
going to have enough time to produce a strong root system before winter =
comes.

BTW, the vinegar works great. I carefully spray just the weed and the =
dieback is wonderful to watch. The local farm agent told me I shouldn't =
have to worry about changing my soil PH if I don't soak the area but =
only get the foilage. I'll check the PH levels again this fall just to =
be sure.

Char in a very dry but soon to be alot cooler Zone 5
