Hi, George,

The one accross the street is a classic cereus, with
long pipe-like branches up to about 6' long, and,
hence, my comment about the large number of cultivars
of cereus which bloom at night.

In this variety, the buds come out of the sides of the
branches, seemingly at random. The flowers are about a
foot long and cream colored, with red throats.

Branches come out from other branches and not from
strap leaves.

Could the plant you are both referring to be an
epiphillum? They bloom at night and have strap type
leaves?
