Hey, Jim. I also soak split peas and >lentils etc for one to two days for the same reasons. Damnit, Jim! I'm a cook, not a swimming pool! Seriously, do your lentils end up too mushy? I usually don't soak lentils at all, especially when cooking dal - I just simmer a bit longer. Makes all the flavors "soak in", I think... I also like mine a bit chewier than most people, and have never had digestion problems with lentils or split peas ('course, I very rarely have digestion problems with many things others do...)
