[gardeners] Lisianthus

My office mate had tried in the past to grow Lisianthus from seed in Zone
5, upstate NY in the Finger Lakes, without much luck. She recently bought
a lisianthus potted plant at a large DIY place for a large sum, so it's not
like it is a market pack or anything, and I'm wondering if it is meant to
be grown as a house plant, with maybe sticking it outside in the summer,
and bringing it in in the winter, or if she should stick it in the ground
and hope it actually flowers. They say that Lisianthus is an annual, and
it should grow, but maybe Zone 5 just isn't warm enough?
