>The windows on the west wall of our house stay closed and with the shades, >drapes, and sheers drawn all the time. You can still feel the heat of the >afternoon sun in the kitchen, dining room, and formal living room Once lived in San Diego with no shade on the west side. Fierce afternoon heat. Old timers (lived there a month or more) told me that the matchstick blinds I was using should be on the outside of the window, and moving them did make a great difference. Still got plenty of light. Matchstick bamboo worked fine there because there was no rain in the hot months; but today's plastic shades should work even in a wetter climate. Donna, Tennessee
