It's a haw tree as the name suggests and bears fruit similar in taste,
color, and size to a small crabapple. I've found that crabapple recipes
work well with the fruit. Very tart and range in color from orange to
deep red. Grows throughout the south and does well in areas where water
stands or the earth is boggy. If you have net access a search will tell
you more than I can.

The tree is in cultivation in Louisiana now and a commercial jelly is
available from a company in Many, LA.
