Pat are you sure you want to have some thistle plants? All the thistles =
we have growing in the pasture on our land is nothing but a very thorny =
nuisance plant. They colonize and take over the ground around them each =
time they bloom and are allowed to go to seed. I tried hoeing for 2 =
years and didn't make much of a dent. We have finally resorted to weed =
killer.
If all thistles are thorny like the bull thistle we have I really =
wouldn't encourage anyone to plant them. The cows can't even eat around =
them, if you or a child steps on one you sure will be hurting and they =
really ruin any hay if they get into a field and take off. That is like =
bird seed I see for sale in the store that have thistle in them I =
wouldn't buy it because I would hate to spread them if they also become =
a problem plant.
I love the large purple blue of the local thistle plants but I just =
can't let them get away from us here. If you see some thistle plants you =
see along the road that you like you could cut off the dead blossoms and =
get the seed.
