Well, it works, but you probably don't want to hear about it.
I've picked up roadkill raccoons and burned them to ash. I'll mix the 
ashes in with water and spray around the garden, and no other 
raccoons will come close. Ditto to other insect or rodent or vermin 
pests. if you'll but ash for them, they'll leave you alone. Admittedly, 
ashing for aphids is a bit tedious, but it can be done.
